Director Statement

Growing up I always felt that I could blend in with any group, but never felt like I truly belonged. I tried on many different faces and personalities, but none of them felt like a fit. When I moved to Los Angeles, I resolved to become a filmmaker, a writer, and an artist; but I felt like I didn’t belong there either. I felt like an impostor.

All the creatives I admired were so free-spirited! They were something I was not. They were unabashedly themselves.

When I started writing this story, I struggled with the ending for a long time. I knew that Cosmo had to join the artists, but I didn’t know how to get him there. I hadn’t figured it out, so how could my chameleon? Ironically, finding the end to this story would write the beginning of my own.

Eventually, I realized that art is vulnerability on display. Being an artist means being yourself, being comfortable in your own skin, and living by your own colors. I didn’t need to be anything more than myself, and neither did my chameleon.
