Young Filmmakers Program

Since 2008, Queens World Filmmaker Mentors have been immersing students in film production experiences, taking them from pitch to production. Students rotate through on-set positions to fully participate in the collaborative nature of film-making, exploring their own character while contributing to something bigger than themselves: a finished short film. Completed films are featured at our popular Kid’s Corner screening at the Museum of the Moving Image during our annual film festival.

Our 2020 Filmmaker Mentors are Don Cato, Patti Lowenhaupt, Mathew Kaplan, Richard Calvache and Serife Potuk, Ciara Kane, Patrick Artigues, Maggie Delgado, Alex Coma and Evan Angarro. Education partners include PS 69, PS/MS 200, IS 300, the Buckley School, Queens Community House, Commonpoint Queens, ChipAway Productions and other community based organizations. While we were not able to hold a public screening of their work, the complete 2020 Kid’s Corner can be seen here

Currently distance learning opportunities are available for small groups in film production, Improvisational Acting and other modules are on their way. Individual sessions are also available to prepare applicants to arts based specialized High Schools and taping for auditions. For more information contact Kathacato@gmail.com
