Prideful Poetry is an intimate, high-energy hour centering LGBTQ voices through the power of poetry and spoken word. This curated evening invites poets and community members to gather, connect, step up to the mic and share their work with an enthusiastic audience.
The line-up is curated by Queens World Film Festival Executive Director Katha Cato who, along with Flushing Town Hall invites you to this special event where every poem is an offering, and every listener is part of the exchange. This event marks Queens World’s expanding commitment to storytelling beyond the screen, while celebrating voice, presence, and participation.
Rooted in visibility, expression, and belonging, Prideful Poetry is a welcoming space where one can hear and be heard. Join us as we gather around our poets and perhaps see ourselves through the stories of others.
We will see you in Queens!

Flushing Town Hall is home to year-round events that celebrate the many communities across Queens and greater NYC that we serve. As a presenter, FLUSHING TOWN HALL PRESENTS brings artists from around the globe to grace our stage and halls. We also host a SCHOOL PERFORMANCE SERIES that brings school children to our historic building to enjoy a range of cultural programming. Other events and exhibitions include GRANTEE EVENTS, hosted artists and performers from across Queens who are supported by us as an arts council, as well as RENTAL events for those looking for a special place to present or share a performance or work. Below is a list of some of our events happening at FTH.
Queens World Film Festival is expanding its work beyond independent film to support storytelling across artistic disciplines. Many of the filmmakers in our community are multidisciplinary artists, moving between film, writing, performance, and other forms of expression. Prideful Poetry reflects our commitment to creating space for those voices to be heard, while continuing to open doors for new artists and perspectives. We are excited to expand our partnership with Flushing Town Hall as we deepen our role as a connector, bringing together artists and audiences to engage with stories that reflect the breadth and diversity of our community.
