Director Statement
‘Scammers’ was inspired by my own experience of falling prey to a dent repair scam last year. Turning that ordeal into a short film about integrity has been gratifying. As a gay filmmaker, I try to honor the healthy curiosity that led me beyond the fenced-in yard of my conservative upbringing. I aim to create narratives as thought-provoking as the films that have been guideposts on my own journey.
Director Biography
Carl Kelsch has written over a dozen short films while also working for media companies like Condé Nast and Hearst. As a screenwriter, he notably collaborated with director Jeremiah Kipp (Slapface) and indie icon Larry Fessenden on ‘The Pod.’ As a director, Carl has worked with Emmy-nominated cinematographer Ava Berkofsky and MacArthur fellowship recipient Okwui Okpokwasili (Bronx Gothic). He is currently developing a feature film with producer Trevite Willis, executive producer of The Forty-Year-Old Version.
