Synopsis

Exploring non-binary identity, Man Up in Lockdown is a short documentary that follows Richard Energy, a provocative digital drag king born at the start of the pandemic, who manages to get their job back on stage just as the second lockdown threatens. This timely and moving film examines what it means to be an artist, driven by creativity and a desperate need to perform, at a time when live venues across the UK on the brink.

Director Biography

Ruicheng Liang is a passionate Chinese queer documentary filmmaker, with a background in new media journalism. Having just finished his MA in Documentary Film at the University of the Arts London, he specialises in making observational character-driven short docs about social issues, discussing social injustice, family and migration, arts and crafts, and LGBTQ+. His work has been screened internationally including Encounters Film Festival, San Diego International ShortsFest and Osnabrück Independent Film Festival.
