Synopsis

“Two brothers struggle to care for themselves when faced with their mother’s Heroin addiction. Based on a true story.”

This short film is the beginning of my story, based on real events that led to me being placed into foster care when I was a child. Amid the opioid epidemic, I made this piece because I wanted to show how addiction affected my family.

Director Biography

Zackary Centrella is a writer/director and recording artist from Wilkes Barre, PA, currently based in Staten Island, NY. Born in 1994, Centrella’s path was not an easy one. As a result of his mother’s struggles with heroin addiction and the absence of his father, he was placed in foster care at 6 years old, where he moved through over 15 homes and institutions before aging out of the system at age 18. In 2014, Centrella was accepted into NYU’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at the Tisch School of the Arts on numerous scholarships, including Atlanta-based Nsoro Foundation. Over the next four years, he would begin development on his debut project, Happy Home, a music-driven biographical drama about a young boy growing up in foster care. His 2018 proof-of-concept film, In My House, premiered the following year at the National Film Festival for Talented Youth (NFFTY) in Seattle, WA.
