Director Statement

Our protagonist is Devon, a 10-year-old girl. The story unfolds entirely through her eyes, showing an intimate, unfiltered glimpse into her everyday life. The narrative stems from my own childhood in the 90’s, reflecting the small moments that quietly shaped it.

Directing a child actor for the first time was challenging, but the moment I asked Trinity to perform the final scene at the audition, I knew she was Devon. All the emotions I wanted Devon to convey in the film were perfectly captured in her eyes.

The use of static shots was a deliberate choice, meant to reflect the calm and composed atmosphere of the story. I also incorporated repeated shots to create visual juxtapositions, with images that may appear similar yet carry entirely different meanings beneath the surface.
Wide shots highlight Devon’s small figure within her world, while close-ups capture and emphasise the subtle emotional nuances of each moment.

All Day Breakfast holds a special place in my heart because it reflects the bittersweet nostalgia of my childhood. Through this film, I wanted to show that as children, we often remember only the fun and happy moments, while deeper, uncomfortable truths stay hidden. But as we grow up, we start to see our past more clearly and understand that even the joyful memories weren’t always as simple as they seemed.

I extend my heartfelt thanks to the cast and crew whose dedication brought this story to life.
