Synopsis
“Gone Before Your Eyes‚” follows Angela, an artist with Alzheimer’s disease, as she attempts to paint. Trapped in a surreal loop, Angela struggles to do what was once natural for her.

Director Statement
This project was inspired by my mother’s battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was a prolific artist. Something that struck me after the diagnosis was that she continued to spend her day in her studio, but she could no longer make her art.
We know little about what a person with Alzheimer’s disease actually experiences. It’s difficult for them to convey what they encounter because their concept of reality is skewed, and eventually, they lose their ability to communicate.
Through this film, I try to connect with my mother and understand what it might have felt like for her during those long days she spent in her studio, unable to do the thing that once defined her.
Director Biography
Cara Yeates is a Canadian-American filmmaker living in New York, where she runs the boutique production company Trigger Creative. She has worked on narrative, documentary, and commercial content worldwide.
Her narrative short film “Gone Before Your Eyes” premiered at the Woodstock Film Festival last fall; highlights of its festival tour include the Mill Valley Film Festival, the Sedona International Film Festival, winning Best Short Narrative Film (Buffalo International Film Festival) and the Audience Choice Award at the Bowery Film Festival.
Yeates has directed videos with Alexander Wang, Ford, Karlie Kloss, Bloomingdales, Uber, and Morgan Stanley. Her first short documentary “Taking New Steps,” was shot at the Karmiel Dance Festival in Israel.
Yeates started her career in the theater by creating and touring solo shows across North America. She developed and performed four original plays that received five-star reviews, won numerous awards, and played to sold-out houses.
Currently, Yeates is adapting her play “Knee Deep in Muck” into a feature film. She is also working on several documentary projects including, “Echoes of Foreign Films” (Gotham Film Market), “Mothers of the Missing” and “Supersight.”
