PASSIONATE PROFESSIONALS

The Queens World Film Festival, New York Women in Film and Television, Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment, The Gaia Zine and Epicenter – NY proudly announce PASSION in ACTION, a day-long mentoring event to bring high school and college students together with Passionate Professionals in the Arts, Sciences, Finance, Women’s Sports, Nonprofit Sectors and More.

The morning session of this day long event will concentrate on developing personal professionalism related to the arts including developing a mission statement, compiling ideas on how to promote your work and creating your back pocket networking tool kit. The afternoon is devoted to a round robin speed networking event so that all attendees have the opportunity to spend 30 minutes with 3 different Passionate Professionals.

Vera Yuan

Partner, Executive Director at Karlssonwilker

Vera’s has over 20 years of creative direction experience in design and fashion. She spent her formative years at the brand consultancy Landor Associates designing identities, packaging, and branded environments for Fortune 500 companies. Vera established and led the creative department at Anne Klein and served as Vice President, Creative Director at Ann Taylor. She has partnered with top talent in the fashion industry and has been involved with the award winning design studio Karlssonwilker since 2000. Vera received her B.A. in Architecture from the University of California at Berkeley. She lives and works in New York City, sharing time between Iceland and California with her husband and son.

What is a personal character trait that you have leaned on in your career?

Leadership. Bringing out the best in my team, partners, collaborators.

What is your best advice for young creatives who are thinking about college?

Don’t limit yourself to certain schools or only art schools. Creativity is a mind set you can cultivate in anything you pursue.

What is your best advice for young creatives who are beginning their careers?

Bring creativity to all facets of your life and experiences. Surround yourself with other creatives, share your passions and be open minded.
