Synopsis
Set in early 2000’s suburbia, The Game portrays a bewilderingly tense period in eight year old George’s life. One night, as he attempts to drown out his parents’ constant and escalating conflicts by gluing his eyes to his Gameboy, he’s startled by the sound of a deafening scream coming from his mother’s bedroom. Based on a true story.

Director Statement
In this personal film inspired by true events, I wanted to explore the idea that our innocence is inevitably fleeting. In the midst of family turmoil, “The Game” meditates on the immediate effects of negligent parenting. By presenting this story through the child’s perspective, this film aims to highlight the lasting traumatic impact a parent’s behavior can have on their subconscious. Are you willing to play the game?
Director Biography
Aldo Vassallo is a director and writer born in Barranquilla, Colombia and is currently based in New York City. He focuses on hyper-realistic narrative storytelling and has gone on to write and direct several shorts, including his most recent film titled The Game. As a graduate of The City College of New York in 2020 with a BFA in Film Production, he continues to draw inspiration from traumatic and confusing aspects of his upbringing in a suburban world as a Latino immigrant. His goal is to utilize the medium of cinema to not only voice these experiences through a unique lens, but to heal from them, and to inspire others to do so as well.
