Director Statement

This movie is my love letter to fantasies. Having repeat fantasies of running into an ex seems to be an entirely universal experience, and while there’s a natural instinct to shut them down because they’re unrealistic and give false hope, I became really interested in what happens when I let the fantasies play. I found two key things: first, that I kept editing the fantasies to make them more realistic and knit in uncomfortable facts I’d previously ignored. And second, that letting the fantasies play really did make me feel better, if only for a moment. Kind of like putting on a happy movie amidst the horror show of painful memories. Noticing these two things reframed my perception of fantasies entirely, and I felt a fountain of gratitude for them. I made this film to depict that journey.
