Director Statement

Our film follows Leroy Truth, a YouTube-based First Amendment auditor who films government officials to test the boundaries of authority.

As we spent time with Leroy, we quickly realized there are many layers to his past that led him to build an online presence centered on provoking authority figures. He traces this calling back to his background as a professional musician, and sailor. That history adds a personal element that sets him apart from the many others creating viral First Amendment auditing videos.

We were drawn to making a documentary about Leroy and the world of vigilante auditors because of our fascination with this emerging subculture. We wanted to understand what drives people to fearlessly challenge those in power, and whether their actions have any real impact on accountability. The film aims to remain observational and unbiased, using both humor and discomfort as we watch Leroy confront authority in real time.
