PASSIONATE PROFESSIONALS

The Queens World Film Festival, New York Women in Film and Television, Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment, The Gaia Zine and Epicenter – NY proudly announce PASSION in ACTION, a day-long mentoring event to bring high school and college students together with Passionate Professionals in the Arts, Sciences, Finance, Women’s Sports, Nonprofit Sectors and More.

The morning session of this day long event will concentrate on developing personal professionalism related to the arts including developing a mission statement, compiling ideas on how to promote your work and creating your back pocket networking tool kit. The afternoon is devoted to a round robin speed networking event so that all attendees have the opportunity to spend 30 minutes with 3 different Passionate Professionals.

King David is a Brooklyn-based fine artist who has cultivated a richly layered practice that evolves around an obsession with abstract painting and the relationships it so beautifully analyzes. The main subject matters of his artworks reflect on his Caribbean heritage, through a father born in Trinidad & Tobago and a mother born in Jamaica. Using his rich cultures as points of visual and conceptual reference, David explores the alchemical beauty of humanity with colors, textures, and flavors that meld the old world with the new, challenging the historical narratives that can plague any disenfranchised group of people and imbuing them with a pride and dignity that defies these narratives. This defiance allows the works to speak to the ubiquitous human struggle for freedom, civil rights, and a better life, something that we all strive towards with the intent to build a better future for our youth.
