The Queens World Film Festival, New York Women in Film and Television, Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment, The Gaia Zine and Epicenter – NY proudly announce PASSION in ACTION, a day-long mentoring event to bring high school and college students together with Passionate Professionals in the Arts, Sciences, Finance, Women’s Sports, Nonprofit Sectors and More.

The morning session of this day long event will concentrate on developing personal professionalism related to the arts including developing a mission statement, compiling ideas on how to promote your work and creating your back pocket networking tool kit. The afternoon is devoted to a round robin speed networking event so that all attendees have the opportunity to spend 30 minutes with 3 different Passionate Professionals.

Caoimhe O’Sullivan Roche

Scenic Drafter, Scenic Corp

Caoimhe O’Sullivan Roche is a Drafter for Scenic Corporation in Brooklyn, NY. Her main role is to create technical and build drawings for various movie and television, sets and props, which she has held for a little over a year. Caoimhe graduated James Madison University with a B.S. in Industrial Design, along with a B.A. in Writing, Rhetoric, and Technical Communication. Since that time she has had various professional experiences in writing, design, and photography, and even two years in EMS. Caoimhe is lucky to have engaged with various passions throughout her working life, but none greater then her relationship with rugby. Caoimhe found rugby in 2013 at JMU, and in doing so, finally found the sport she had been trying to play her whole life. Rugby allows Caoimhe to express the full range of her strength and capabilities, while constantly encouraging her to get better, and fight for the next meter. Rugby is a game of life, and has taught her that no amount of hits or misdirection can prevent a determined individual. Caoimhe feels a tremendous amount of gratitude for the extended rugby community that surrounds her, as it has shown consistent love, support, opportunity, and freedom to be her truest self. Caoimhe currently plays for New York Rugby Club’s, Premier League team, at the highest level of US women’s 15s rugby. What is your best advice for young creatives who are beginning their careers?

Remember the values and hopes that motivated your work during school. Balancing these with a desire for stability and comfort will be the challenge.
