Anita Raswant
Film Programmer
Anita is a freelance Film Programmer, and is currently the Lead Programmer for the Nantucket Film Festival, Programming Manager for NewFest, and the Filmmaker Manager for DOC NYC. She has always been interested in telling stories of minorities and having their voices heard through film and art. As a self-appointed mac and cheese connoisseur, she prides herself on her love for all things food, music, travel, and of course, movies. She has film-festival hopped for several years, with stints at Tribeca Film Festival, Hamptons International Film Festival, and Philadelphia Film Festival, Anita grew up in Rome, Italy but has been a loyal Queens resident after graduating with a B.A. in Sociology from St. John’s University. From script to screen, she loves all aspects of the film industry, including talking about herself in the third person.

What is a personal character trait that you have leaned on in your career?
Be reliable! Arriving to work on time and completing tasks by a deadline shows you are responsible and value the work you’re doing.
What is your best advice for young creatives who are thinking about college?
Be a team player! Show you are able to collaborate with a team to achieve shared goals. Be flexible, willing to change and adapt to different roles. Be supportive and respectful of your colleagues’ ideas and accomplishments.
What is your best advice for young creatives who are beginning their careers?
Make your career intentions known – industry members don’t know you’re interested in a particular subject/project if you are not vocal about your interest.
The Queens World Film Festival, New York Women in Film and Television, Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment, The Gaia Zine and Epicenter – NY proudly announce PASSION in ACTION, a day-long mentoring event to bring high school and college students together with Passionate Professionals in the Arts, Sciences, Finance, Women’s Sports, Nonprofit Sectors and More.
The morning session of this day long event will concentrate on developing personal professionalism related to the arts including developing a mission statement, compiling ideas on how to promote your work and creating your back pocket networking tool kit. The afternoon is devoted to a round robin speed networking event so that all attendees have the opportunity to spend 30 minutes with 3 different Passionate Professionals.
