Filmmaker’s Note
HUMAN BEING is a re-imagining of an experience I had with an anti-abortion protester outside of a Planned Parenthood in October 2016. The experience was unsettling, upsetting, and very bizarre. It occurred at the height of the 2016 election. The tapes of a presidential candidate bragging about groping and grabbing women had just been released. I imagined how an alien from a world with a separate set of core beliefs about reproductive health and hierarchical dynamics would feel in this time and place. Silliness, playfulness, and the power of vulnerability are how I wanted to deal with not just this tiny event, but everything else that has come to a head since the autumn it occurred.
