Director Statement
Lost Year came from a place of sadness, frustration, isolation, and despair. It started with me filming a stormy day in April. By then, my hometown of Elmhurst had become the Covid-19 epicenter of New York. Things around the world only seemed to get worse from there. In November, I rewatched the footage of that stormy day. The images took on a whole new meaning. They made me reflect on everything that happened. My goal with this film was to capture all those feelings I had while summing up this year’s events.
Director Biography
Charles A. Jimenez is a filmmaker and photographer from Queens, NY. Ever since he was a kid, he’s been engaged in the arts. It started with drawing and painting. Later, as a teenager, he was a graffiti writer. It wasn’t until dropping out of high school that he found his love for cinema. Without the means to attend film school, he worked in video stores, spending his free time studying film and making shorts. Along the way, he picked up a still camera and started shooting street photography. In 2016, his short film Boy Wander was the Audience Choice Winner at the Boulevard Film Festival.
