The Listening Tour 2023
By 2023, gathering in person was becoming normalized again. Many cultural organizations reopened with great fanfare, while we focused inward. We postponed our annual festival to strengthen the Festival Associate Training Program, introduce Passion in Action, and formalize The Listening Tour.
We invited elected officials to recommend unsung heroes and encouraged Festival Associates to reach out across the City University of New York to identify new subjects resulting in 19 compilations featuring 33 subjects. On March 19, marking the third anniversary of the shutdown, we partnered with the Queens Memory Project and the The Zip Code Memory Project to present a public screening of Listening Tour segments and other work created during the pandemic.
