Director Statement

ROBBERS explores an untalented musician’s fantasy of fame and fortune through his hilariously pathetic get-rich-quick scheme. The film dramatizes today’s obsession with viral shortcuts to stardom, drawing inspiration from the recent Kia theft trend and AI’s encroachment into creative spaces, and the ultimate fallacy of prioritizing success over sincerity.

Director Biography

Ben Swearingen is a young filmmaker based in Birmingham, Alabama. He graduated from Birmingham-Southern College as the recipient of the Outstanding Media and Film Studies Student award. A lifelong resident of the Greater Birmingham area, Ben worked with local cast and crew to produce ROBBERS as his senior thesis short film. Additionally, Ben is a guitar/bass instructor at Mason Music and a film instructor at Birmingham’s Acting Out! Academy.
