PASSIONATE PROFESSIONALS

The Queens World Film Festival, New York Women in Film and Television, Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment, The Gaia Zine and Epicenter – NY proudly announce PASSION in ACTION, a day-long mentoring event to bring high school and college students together with Passionate Professionals in the Arts, Sciences, Finance, Women’s Sports, Nonprofit Sectors and More.

The morning session of this day long event will concentrate on developing personal professionalism related to the arts including developing a mission statement, compiling ideas on how to promote your work and creating your back pocket networking tool kit. The afternoon is devoted to a round robin speed networking event so that all attendees have the opportunity to spend 30 minutes with 3 different Passionate Professionals.

Gregory Hernandez

Founder & CEO of Green Canvas Productions

Gregory Hernandez is a filmmaker and video producer. He enjoys the collaborative process of making films and videos. He believes filmmaking to be one of the most inclusive art forms imaginable.

His directorial debut feature length documentary called “1.5 million” which centers around the literacy crisis in The Bronx is now in distribution with Hewes Pictures.

He is the CEO of Green Canvas Productions and Executive Director of the Bronx Independent Cinema Center.

His favorite film is Apocalypse Now
He has a cat named “Frannie Chai”

What is a personal character trait that you have leaned on in your career?

Be easy to talk to. Be approachable.

What is your best advice for young creatives who are thinking about college?

Have a plan before you apply. This is one of the most important decisions of your life. If you’re unable to get into a top tier school or able to get in, but have to take loans, consider alternatives. Always weigh your options.

Look at community college.
Look at a taking a possible gap year to work and truly figure out what do you want to do in your life and does that pay well enough?

Do not follow your passion, figure out what you can get good at that can pay your bills.

What is your best advice for young creatives who are beginning their careers?

Learn to network properly and build strong relationships. You have to form strong bonds and build trust with people. This will strengthen your personal and professional sides of your life.
