Synopsis

This coming of age film is about a moment in time between longtime friends and tumultuous flames Rose and Alex, who meet each other for a camping trip in the woods.

Overnight the pair navigates their undeniable chemistry while struggling to break their patterns of avoiding their relationship and running from themselves.

This film explores the bittersweet experience of being moments away from togetherness, every second teetering on the edge of what could be, if only the right words were said.

Director Statement

Stick Bug illustrates the inherent vulnerability that comes with deeply caring for somebody – the way that the joy of intimacy is inextricably tied to the fear of loss and heartbreak.

This short centers around a queer relationship, breaking free from the binary canon of traditional love stories. Stick Bug explores the individual journeys of exploring one’s sexuality and gender expression, presenting a singular experience shared by these two characters, unburdened by the tropes of classic romance films.

Specificity yields universality, and while this project is a very personal one, I believe this is precisely what cracks the story open for audiences. As viewers journey into the world of these characters and their relationship, we hope they will see themselves and recall their own experiences with first love, with all its glorious and contradicting emotions.
