LEGALLY DRUGGED
Synopsis
When Richie Schneeberg was 15 his father died struggling to provide for his family and it left an indelible mark on him, one that would shape the outcome of his entire life. Richie becomes a self-made millionaire and retires when his wife Cindy becomes pregnant with their child. While in retirement an investment opportunity comes to Richie and he invests almost everything he has. The stress of that decision keeps him from sleeping and Cindy tells him to get some help. Stressed and exhausted, one night he walks into an insane asylum looking for help and they admit him. Misdiagnosed and overprescribed, it’s the first of ten hospital stays over three years which will put Richie on a cycle of 14 different anti-depressant and anti-psychotic drugs that oddly enough trigger psychotic episodes.
During one such episode, Richie calls 911 thinking that he’s killed his son and burned his house down. Cindy divorces Richie and takes full custody of their son. While in and out of insane asylums Richie’s investment pays off to the tune of $10 million. Realizing that there is a relationship between the drugs and his psychotic episodes Richie cleans himself up and tries to get back the family that means so much to him. Shortly after that Cindy dies of cancer and gives custody of their son to her sister. The family that Richie worked so hard to provide for is gone. Richie becomes an advocate for limiting the use of anti-depressant and anti-psychotic drugs and shortly after he testifies to the Federal Drug Administration influencing their decision to put warning labels on these drugs for children.
