Enongo
Synopsis
“Enongo” is an award-winning, feature-length, animation-documentary hybrid and the inspiring story of rapper/producer/Ph.D. candidate, Enongo Lumumba-Kasongo, a.k.a., Sammus. With her autobiographical and afrofuturism-inspired music, Enongo tackles various subjects including (but certainly not limited to) mental health, growing up, and relationships. Through a combination of actuality and animation, “Enongo” tells a universally-relevant, intimate, empowering story of identity, artistic creation, and survival. Notably, “Enongo” is the first feature-length film of any genre in history to have an all-Black women animation team.

Director Statement
“I wanted to make this film because I’m drawn to stories about creative people. But I rarely see stories about artists like Enongo spotlighted in mainstream movies, even when stories like hers are both profoundly universal and personal. So, I wanted to amplify Enongo’s incredible story while simultaneously giving an opportunity to artists who can tell it best, based on their unique talents and visions. I am honored and humbled to collaborate with an extraordinary team of animators and artists who deeply connect with Enongo’s journey. We’re all excited to help give Enongo’s story the presentation it deserves.”
